Near Chicago, we have a pretty cold winter and it’s hard to play baseball. We have batting cages near us but it is owned by the travel team coach who only lets the travel kids use it or for others, it’s really expensive. I have no clue where the other is. How do I work throughout the summer and winter to improve?
There is no more travel team or public league for my age. But how do you practice in the winter when it’s cold out???

our son(8 yrs) playes baseball in the spring this was his 2nd yr and his dad practices with him during the spring.But as soon as the “season” is over the ball and bat go in the basement and stays there till the next year.i just worry our son will fall behind everyone else if he does not practice at all for 9 mons.He really loves baseball and i would hate to see this happen. Should i talk to my husband about taking him out to the batting cages like once a month?

I play in a men’s recreational league and I have not been consistent at the plate this year. I have hit to the fence before and hit doubles and triples at times, but recently I will only have only 3-4 solid hits during a double header.

I’m in my 30’s. I strength train twice a week during the season. My biggest weakness is a bad right knee and right quad. Both are always sore during the season.

I go to the batting cages twice a week, but recently it doesn’t appear that the cage work is helping. My stance is shoulder width. My grip is pinky off the bat handle. I hold the bat at ear level. I use the same bats as the other guys on my team, so it’s not the bat that’s the problem.

Any suggestions?

Im 17 and im going into college next year…i never played baseball for my HS team but i have practiced throughout the years in opened baseball fields and batting cages and i know everything there is about baseball….Most of my friends and family encourage me to play baseball because of the ability i have as an outfielder mostly…im pretty quick but i have never played HS baseball…can i still make it to a college team???

I started playing slowpitch softball with some friends, and I’ve decided I enjoy it enough to buy some gear and get into a league. Unfortunately, there’s still a fair amount I have left to learn, particularly about bats.

I recently purchased a softball bat. I did a bit of research and bought one that is nice, but not too expensive. Basically, I bought something better than a cheapo Wal-Mart bat, but I waited to spend $2-300 until I know for certain this is something I’ll enjoy enough to invest in.

So, here are my questions:

1) How long can I expect the bat to last?

2) I’ve read that I shouldn’t use the bat in batting cages, as it will shorten its life. Right now, I don’t have a cage bat. Will a few trips to the cages damage the bat, or should I avoid the cages altogether? I’ll buy a cheap cage bat soon, I just need something for 2 or 3 trips in the interim.

3) Is there a break in period for a softball bat? If so, is a cage ok for this, or should I hit real softballs?

Does anybody know the name of the machine that shoots baseballs at the batting cages? I’m trying to figure it out so I can write it in my book. Also, I’m trying to figure out the name of the machine that shoots tennis balls as well as the name of the guns that riot police use to shoot rubber bands. If anybody could tell me the names of all three of these, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

I mean c’mon I’m 135lbs and hitting strikes from the batting cages with my wooden bat…its just ridiculous.
Steven but with less velocity it would have hit him in the head…metal lighter than wood and therefor the ball will go farther.

I am 14, i am SOOOO obsessed with baseball. I’m pretty good at it.
I believe that girls are just as good as boys.
My dream is to play in ATLEAST the minors.
I know you havent seen me play, but I’m not bad. I go to the batting cages every chance i get.
I HATE softball, its not for me.

Honestly, Do you think I’d have a chance in the minor leagues or the majors?

my sister is 6 years old. and just finished her last year of tee-ball. she is already working on pitching. do you think it’s too early for me to try to teach her how to slap hit? i think she would catch on, that part wouldn’t be hard, but do you think she will get burned out. or get bored playing in machine next year. i really want her to do good when she gets older.

she is 6, but she is already working on windmil pitching and does a really good job. she can throw harder than half of the boys on her tee-ball team, and she can defiataly hit harder than half of them. she does really well at hitting with out a tee, and we go to the batting cages sometimes, and she does great. i also taught her to bunt and she does that good too.

she catches on to things really fast and is super athletic.
