backyard batting cage
At my local batting cage, I was hitting really well on medium setting (which was throwing consistent strikes with a varying location), and when I went to fast, I did ok, but swung and missed at a lot. A lot of the pitches were balls, so that did not help. Am I a bad hitter for not being able to hit consistantly on fast if most of the pitches are balls. Its not that my timing is bad, just that I cannot hit bad pitches

No, most people have have trouble hitting bad pitches, you need to work on watching pitches that aren’t strikes. you just want to swing at strikes, plus if you can look at balls in a game you wear out the pitcher faster. so just work on being able to tell a ball from a strike and swinging only at strikes.

speed and ball/strikes do not make you a hitter.

i am a hitting and catching instructor. its all about mechanics. go see a hitting and instructor. batting cages mess up your swing to no end and will end up making u a worse hitter because u wont see that motion in a game so it will screw ur swing up. go see a hitting instructor. do short toss, and tee work. the best things for your swing.

    definitley not

having good mechanics are way more imporrtant
i dont like mechanical pitching machines it is hard to get any timing off the machines just keep working on a good consistent swing on the slower one and when your swing feels consistent go to the faster one then you can work on batspeed or just loading quicker
also setting up a camera and filming yourself swinging and going back and looking over your swing can really help
