backyard batting cage
I am wanting to play baseball next year as a sophomore. I need to work on my batting though. I know all of the basics and routines of battin (Ive played 8 years of baseball) but I need to make contact better. I already know about practice, and Im gonna hit the cages a lot, but does anybody have any tips on making contact with the ball?

    Play stickball.
Hit tennis balls with a broomstick.
    Use a tee every day.

    And the best way:
    Hit live in a cage.

the first poster was right. I don’t know if you are working out by yourself but if you are maybe you can throw a marble or rock up and hit it with a broom stick. that will get your eyes trained in the ball. those things i’ve seen on tv where you hit it, it wraps around a pole are good too, but don’t let it develop a downward chopping swing. and whatever you do, don’t be scared of the ball hitting you. thats for sissys

well the old “keep ur eye on the ball” could be said
but really get rid of unnecessary movement
1start twisted back have a little wide stance
2take a small step when the ball leaves the pitchers hands while still keeping your weight back. This means ur still in hitting stride and your not lunging badly at the ball then and ur just ready to hit the ball
3swing dont try to kill it or pull it the whole time. hit it where the ball is pitched and follow through
this is pretty much effeicent way of making contact and solidly hitting the ball that works for me if im slumping on contact cuz u just have more time to see the ball and react to any pitch thats coming

Keep your body weight on your back foot and don’t move it. Turn your hips (and thus your whole body) into the swing…this is where your hitting power comes from. The muscle group that controls your mid-section is the largest and strongest in the body. Also, do not drop your back elbow ever. When you do it makes your swing lower than the ball or forces a shallow pop-up. Don’t worry about power hitting, just hit the ball and make the defense defend. Additionally, if at all possible, don’t step at all. Just adjust your stance to match your after-step stance. Finally, develop a batting routine, when I played I put my back foot in the box, measured my distance, stepped in the box and talked myself through the steps repeatedly…back elbow up, back foot planted, turn my hips, watch the ball. Whatever you do, do it the same way every time. Muscle memory, though a bad use of words, is a correct sentiment.

soft toss with a broom stick and golf wilfles. go to a park and have some one throw to u but use the bat backwards. i say Park because most cages wont let you. practice bunting it will get you eye to follow the ball
